Planning Your Visit
The Montana Heritage Commission has three staffed locations in Virginia City and Nevada City, Montana during the summer months. These two cities are about a mile and a half apart along Highway 287 in the Alder Gulch area in southwestern Montana. All locations are open 10 am to 6 pm daily from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. See our package deals and specials.
Virginia City Depot
This location is home to the Alder Gulch Shortline Railroad, Gift Store &
Montana Heritage Commission (MHC) Visitor Information Center
413 W Wallace, the lower (west) end of Wallace Street along Highway 287
Public outhouses are available at this location.
All tickets and passes sold by the MHC are available from this location.
Located in Nevada City along Highway 287
Public accessible restrooms are available across the street at the Bovey Visitor Center.
All tickets and passes sold by the MHC are available from this location as well.
Located in between Virginia City and Nevada City on Highway 297
Passes and tickets for gold panning are available from this location.
